Learning Rights Law Center (“LRLC”) is a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to disadvantaged students not receiving an equitable public education.   

 

LRLC focuses its efforts on the most vulnerable K-12 students who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or otherwise face discrimination. LRLC addresses the crisis in the education system through advocacy, litigation, training and community organizing.

TIGER Program Coordinator

POSITION

The TIGER Program Coordinator position is under the supervision of the TIGER Program Manager.

 

Training Individuals for Grassroots Education Reform (TIGER) is a hands-on, self-advocacy program designed and taught by Learning Rights, to foster the tools of families in need, so that they may successfully advocate within the special education system. Every year TIGER works with hundreds of families residing in communities in Los Angeles County including: Downey, Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Long Beach, the San Gabriel Valley (El Monte), the San Fernando Valley (Pacoima), South Los Angeles (Watts) and Whittier. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required;

  • Ability to work full-time, including 1-2 Saturdays on a monthly basis

  • Self-motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of team with strong interpersonal skills;

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;

  • The ability to multitask, tackle problems as they arise and work with deadlines;

  • Experience conducting community outreach and developing outreach materials;

  • Experience planning events;

  • Experience working with children and with parents and/or minority communities, students with disabilities, and other disenfranchised communities; Attention to cultural competence with family and community engagement.

  • College degree or 2-3 years relevant professional experience;

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Must have own transportation and valid Driver’s License.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements project plans to ensure all TIGER program events and related outreach efforts are executed to meet expected goals and outcomes.

 

TIGER PROGRAM – 80% of time

  • Preparing for the implementation of parent trainings including, but not limited to: venue scheduling, reviewing monthly class curriculum, coordinating vendors, communicating with stakeholders, serving as onsite event contact, and transporting materials to and from events.

  • Coordinating of day to day student support (including, but not limited to: phone calls, data entry, assisting with class homework, school outreach, community events, and resource referrals) to encourage student retention. Identify student needs and communicate to Program Manager, teachers, venue staff, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.

  • Serves as liaison to class instructors to assist with implementing lesson planning, class material preparation, and on-going support.   

  • Organize and maintain calendar and contacts for TIGER Program;

  • Managing TIGER student data through student applications & registration, class attendance records, and student survey feedback. Produce and disseminate board report and outreach data as needed for grants and program development.

  • Assists with translations and interpretation of program materials. Maintains and oversees interpretation equipment for program.

  • Track program expenditures, request payment for vendors and manage purchasing of supplies and materials.

 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – 20%

  • Assist with strategic planning and community relationship building; 

    • Conduct outreach on behalf Learning Rights Law Center & TIGER Program to stakeholders and community partners.

    • Ability to represent the organization at meetings, events and community resource fairs.

    • Communicate with parents, stakeholders, and community partners about program and services;

    • Manages program communications and social media presence by creating and posting content, as well as engaging with student requests via social media.

  • Log outreach data on behalf of organization onto Salesforce

 

 

SALARY RANGE

$19 - $22/ hourly depending on experience.

 

Salary Range/Benefits: Salary varies depending on qualifications and experience. Includes full health and dental benefits, paid federal and state holidays, plus paid vacation and sick leave, and commuter benefits.

  • Maintaining, sorting, and securing all student files and demographic data;

  • Assisting student attendance process, including collecting and entering monthly student attendance;

  • Organizing and updating data on student applications;

  • Assisting with planning and registration process for parent trainings and related program events;

  • Communicating with parents and community members regarding class updates and program reminders; Responding to parent requests for resource referrals.

  • Printing and Preparing teaching materials and class reminders;

  • Translating class materials and other resources;

  • Organizing and maintaining the calendar and contacts for TIGER Program;

  • Keeping data and updating reporting information; and

  • Assisting with the production of data reports for program grants.

 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – 30%
