Learn your child’s rights. Learn the special education system.

Training Individuals for Grassroots Education Reform (TIGER) is a hands-on, self-advocacy program designed and taught by Learning Rights, to foster the tools of families in need, so that they may successfully advocate within the special education system. Since 2005, we have helped over 2,500 families residing in economically-marginalized communities in Los Angeles County including, Downey, Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Long Beach, the San Gabriel Valley (El Monte), the San Fernando Valley(Pacoima), South Los Angeles(Watts) and Whittier.

Learn to advocate. Learn to collaborate.

TIGER’s cornerstone project is its unique and intensive Beginning TIGER special education advocacy training. Families meet once a month for 11 months and are taught by education advocates, attorneys, and professionals.

Get skills. Gain confidence.

Each parent receives a free copy of Learning Rights Law Center’s Special Education Toolkit along with training, support, and resources necessary to advocate for their children in a non-adversarial and collaborative manner. The 2018 trainings reached over 400 families in Southern California.

Get support from other families.

TIGER also supports 4 parent-to-parent community groups designed specifically for parents who face special education advocacy challenges. These groups meet once per month on a drop-in basis in Downey, Highland Park, Long Beach, and West Los Angeles. At these meetings, parents will find a safe space to gather resources and find support from other parents in the community.
