Los Angeles Medical-Legal Collaborative for Education (LAMCE)

LAMCE is a partnership with Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Since 2006, the Program has been delivering an integrated medical-legal approach to ensure the health of patients from birth to 22 years who are receiving treatment at CHLA.

LAMCE safeguards young patients’ rights to immediate school re-entry after an extended hospitalization or illness, obtains necessary health accommodations throughout the school day so that school is a safe environment, and enforces special education and disability laws to ensure a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Patient health is improved by tackling a critical social determinant for poor children – their education. To these ends, Learning Rights provides education advocacy, direct legal representation and consultation and training to healthcare providers.
