Learning Disabilities

Students With Learning Disabilities Need Education Advocacy:

Students with learning disabilities may already be receiving Special Education services, or be eligible for Special Education.  This population must be properly served in order to ensure that schools and school districts are identifying these youth where appropriate, appropriately serving these students, and complying with federal and state Special Education law, the Americans With Disabilities Act, and §504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Students With Learning Difficulties Need Education Advocacy:

Students with learning difficulties may experience an unexplained drop in grades, failing grades, discipline issues and/or poor attendance.  These students may not be in Special Education, but may nonetheless require additional educational or mental health assistance in order to succeed in school and become productive members of society. Students with learning difficulties must be served in order to prevent anti-social behaviors possibly escalating in juvenile court involvement.  Equally important, serving these students will ensure that young people - especially male minority students - are appropriately identified and placed into Special Education programs.
